Version 3.0
- The way that you use the program has been simplified to a two step procedure. The previous '2nd and 3rd step' have been combined into a single step where the candidate files are now sent directly to the candidate files list. This way it is now possible to immediately start working on deleting files as they are found and while it is still scanning for more - and you save time!
- Updated the user interface for a more modern look.
- Added an "Empty directories" scan type.
- Added a "Mozilla FireFox cache" scan type.
- Updated the "Visual C++ cleanup" scan type with new temporary file types used by Visual Studio 2005.
- Improved the accuracy of the "Log files" scan type.
- The program manual is now in 'HTML help' format (it now both looks better and is easier to use than when it was using the older 'WinHelp' format).
- Various minor improvements.
Version 2.8
- It is now a bit smarter in skipping search paths that won't match selected search types.
- You can now also use wildcards in the directory path searches, i.e. when you have selected "Clean all files under a specific folder" for the search type, you can now enter an expression like D:\*\Temp
- Furthermore, you can now specify multiple paths for a single search type. Separate paths by comma, e.g. *Temp,*Tmp
- If you need to use a comma in a file name pattern or a path pattern, then you can now enclose the whole string in "" marks, e.g. "Sales, * of 2003.xls".
- Added a new pre-defined search type "Temporary directories".
Version 2.7
- Double clicking on a search type now adds or removes it.
- You can now right-click on a search type to get a list of options.
- The file list is now more quickly updated after you clean up files.
- It now tries to check for sharing violations before deleting, recycling or moving files. This saves it from having to restart the whole process every e.g. a delete fails (which makes the whole thing much quicker if you have many files selected).
- The 'Move' command now remembers the last path you moved something to.
- New setup program.
Version 2.6
- It is now possible to supply a 'search set' file (.CleanDisk) on the command line - something which will fast forward through the two first 'steps'.
- Which paths are enabled or disabled are now also saved to, and loaded from, the 'search set' files.
- Added command line options -SILENTRECYCLE and -SILENTDELETE that allows the program to be used 'silently' with no user intervention (e.g. useful with 'automatic schedulers'). Use at your own risk - you won't get any confirmation request before files are deleted!
Here's a usage example: CleanDisk.exe -SILENTDELETE "My settings.CleanDisk"
- Added a -NOTEXTURE command line switch that works around a problem with certain buggy video drivers that crashed on the 'dialog textures' used in this program.
- Now skips all root level directories named '_RESTORE' (used by WinME's system restore feature).
- Fixed bug with 'empty recycle bin' not correctly reporting freed space under Win2K.
Version 2.5
- Added some nice cosmetics to the dialogs.
- Added a 'Files not accessed during the last year' search option.
- Added a 'Save log' check-box to the 'step 3' page. Turning it on will save a log of what files you delete, recycle, or move, in the file 'CleanDisk.log'.
- Added a right mouse button 'context menu' to the file list in 'step 3', from which you can: select all, unselect, delete, recycle, move, view, explore, and 'copy as text'. The last function is new and places the selected file names as a text list on the clipboard.
- When searching for 'broken shell links' any link that do not point to a file is now reported and no attempt is done to let Windows resolve it by searching for the link target (which could take forever if you e.g. had a directory with a lot of links to a CD-ROM that's not in the drive...).
Version 2.1
- Added a 'Empty recycle bin' button to the delete page.
- The last selection status for drives is now remembered between sessions.
- If you have selected multiple files and try to delete or recycle them and one (ore more) of the files could not be deleted (e.g. because it is in use by Windows) then it will now continue and try to delete the remaining files and no longer just stop when encountering the problematic file.
- Fixed a problem that a few people had with deleting/recycling/et c not working at all.
Version 2.0
- Added a special 'broken shell links' search type.
- Added a special 'zero sized files' search type.
- It is now possible to specify patterns that should not be considered as candidates by specifying a minus sign before the pattern, e.g. "-uninstal.log" will exempt all files called 'uninstal.log' from a search.
- Added a 'Clear set' button to the type selection page.
- Added a 'Hide' button to the search page to minimize the wizard during a scan (for some reason Windows doesn't allow a normal title bar minimize button in a wizard).
- Added a 'Select All' button to the results page.
- Added a 'Sort results by' selection to the results page, which gives you the option to sort by path, name, size, or by extension.
- Added an 'Empty recycle bin' button to the results page.
- You can now 'slow double click' on an item in the results list to see the whole path if it is too long to fit in the column.
- Made all the pages wider in order to better display long path names.
Version 1.0
- This was the very first release!
